The biennial Lincolnshire Poacher Competition organised by Lincolnshire County Foods is one of the premier regional food events for butchers and bakers in Britain. It promotes individual entrants as well as emphasising the status of our county as the country’s most important food producing area.
The 2014 Competition, held on Wednesday 15th October at the Epic Centre on the Lincolnshire Showground, was the thirteenth contest to find the best of Lincolnshire’s famous speciality products. This showcasing of the finest Lincolnshire produce always attracts much public and media attention, ensuring the widest possible audience for the products and specialist skills of our counties’ speciality food producers.
The 2014 categories were: Lincolnshire sausage, speciality sausage, gluten free sausage, stuffed chine, haslet, plum bread, pork pie, sausage roll, steak pie, burger, bacon and lastly innovations.
Points were allocated on the basis of awards achieved in each class and the title of Champion Lincolnshire Butcher 2014/16 was awarded to the entrant gaining the most points overall, which this year was, unsurprisingly, Simpsons Butchers, who celebrated individual wins in the best Lincolnshire sausage and best speciality sausage category for their cracked black pepper sausage.
Gary Simpson said “We try and source local products wherever possible and have some excellent suppliers here in Lincolnshire. We have full traceability on all of our products and firmly believe in offering the very best value for money for the quality that we buy and supply.”
With this commitment to quality and value it’s easy to see why Simpsons Butchers are picking up so much local and national acclaim and business is going from strength to strength.
